January 7, 2026 — In a major escalation of political activity, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Tribal Youth Federation (TYF) have jointly announced a five-day statewide agitation titled “Save the Generation.” The movement, set to run from January 8 to January 12, aims to confront the state government on issues ranging from unemployment and drug abuse to institutional corruption.

A State in “Jungle Raj”: Youth Leaders Lash Out

During a press conference held Tuesday at the Student-Youth Bhavan, leadership from both organizations leveled a scathing critique against the BJP-led administration. DYFI State Secretary Nabarun Deb and TYF President Kaushik Roy Debbarma alleged that the state has descended into a “Jungle Raj,” characterized by political terror and the systemic dismantling of democratic norms.

The organizations highlighted five core demands:

  • Employment: Immediate filling of over 50,000 vacant posts in government departments.
  • Anti-Drug Crusade: A genuine social movement against the flourishing drug and gambling mafias.
  • Political Freedom: An end to interference in self-employment initiatives and attacks on minorities and tribal communities.
  • Governance: Strict action against “institutionalized” corruption and “commission” culture.
  • Health: Urgent intervention regarding the surge in HIV/AIDS cases among the youth.

Recruitment Policies Under Fire

Nabarun Deb claimed that since 2018, the state’s future has been compromised by the scrapping of nearly 16,000 jobs that were in the final stages of recruitment. He argued that the resulting staff shortages have crippled the education and healthcare sectors, while outsourcing practices remain “exploitative and discriminatory.”

The Roadmap of Protest

The ‘Save the Generation’ movement is scheduled to move through key hubs in Tripura:

  1. January 8 (Kumarghat): Mass sit-in featuring Leader of Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury as the keynote speaker.
  2. Subsequent Days: Protests will shift to Ambassa, Agartala, and Udaipur.
  3. January 11 (Agartala): To be addressed by DYFI All India General Secretary Himangshu Bhattacharjee.
  4. January 12 (Statewide): On National Youth Day, rallies will be held specifically targeting communal hatred and divisive politics.

Rising Concerns Over Social Decay

DYFI State President Palash Bhowmik countered the government’s development narrative, alleging that Tripura now leads national rankings in drug trafficking and international human trafficking. The TYF leadership echoed these concerns, noting that social alienation and mental health crises are reaching critical levels in both the hills and the plains.

As the state gears up for this five-day stir, the DYFI and TYF have issued a clarion call to the public, urging citizens of all political stripes to join the movement to “protect the future of Tripura.”
