Agartala, December 25, 2025:
The North Tripura district police have stepped up their crackdown on the banned militant outfit Tripura United National Front (TUNF) with the arrest of another operative, this time from neighboring Mizoram.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a special police team led by Officer-in-Charge Rinpuia Darlong of Vanghmun Police Station conducted a coordinated operation on Wednesday and apprehended Lalthanga Reang, an alleged active member of TUNF.
According to police sources, the arrested militant is a resident of Bhandarima village under Anandabazar Police Station in Kanchanpur subdivision and is the son of Harimanohan Reang. The arrest follows closely on the heels of a recent detention of another TUNF operative from the Dumdum area under Panisagar subdivision.
A case has been registered against the accused under Vanghmun Police Station Case No. 007/2025. The charges include Sections 61(2)(A), 148, and 310(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908.
For security reasons, the accused was shifted from Vanghmun to Kanchanpur Police Station on Wednesday night and was produced before the Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Court on Thursday.
The arrest has drawn attention across the region, with local residents welcoming the police action. Kanchanpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Asish Kumar Thakur stated that the operation reflects the administration’s firm commitment to eliminating militant activities and maintaining law and order in the region.
